Welcome to the King’sBridge first annual Fourth of July Celebration. Our residents and their guest joined us in the front circle for food, fellowship and a sunset fireworks extravaganza! We had tents and misting machines to keep things cool while they dined and made requests to our DJ of their favorite songs before the hot show began at sundown. Our dining room staff served everyone’s favorite BBQ items from ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and even fried green beans. Everyone and everything was all decked out in red, white and blue.
The first Saturday in May means unmatched excitement for devoted Kentucky Derby fans. But even for those of us who can’t name the last 5 winners, the day was filled with wonderful traditions that brought out smiles from all around.
The dining room tables were decorated with roses lovingly prepared for our Derby Day Lunch, so all could enjoy the festivities. Lunch included classics like pimento cheese and chicken salad sandwiches, served with refreshing homemade lemonade, with a mint garnish.
At the Derby Day Party, all the ladies came dressed in their finest, and wearing their gorgeous floral hats. The piano came to life with the songs of the season, beautifully played by the talented daughter of one of King’s Bridge Retirement Community’s own.
With almost 75 people attending, the day was a fine example of senior living in Atlanta, with good friends making the most of community life together.
The excitement of the day culminated in our own Parade of Roses, led by a King’s Bridge resident who still enjoys horseback riding, decked in her riding gear, and blazing a trail for those who came to mark this memorable event.
Our recent Fabulous 50’s Show was a huge success! The afternoon featured entertainment by a group called The Second Chance Duo. The two dated in college but eventually lost touch until, 45 years later, they found each other on Facebook. We are so glad they did! Second Chance Duo played some of our favorites of the era, like Buddy Holly, Elvis, Paul Anka, Chuck Berry, and Rosemarie Clooney.
The well-attended event was held in our elegant pavilion. It was easy to see that a great time was had by both residents and staff. One resident shared enthusiastically, “That was the best show you’ve had yet. You have to have them back!” We agree and have booked them for a July 17th encore. What remains to be seen is whether our music-loving staff will be doing “the twist” again! Be sure to check back for updates!
For the first time in 38 years, residents of the United States will be able to see a solar eclipse. King’sBridge is getting ready with glasses to view the eclipse outside, and a viewing party to watch news agencies’ coverage of the eclipse in the Activities Room. Darkness will last approximately three hours, with the peak at 2:36 p.m. Weather in Atlanta calls for some clouds, but it should be a great day to see the sun disappear.
On Thursday, April 14th at 3 pm, in the Activities Room, we will have Laughter Club. There are many benefits of laughter for Seniors. Internal jogging–laughing provides a good massage to all the internal organs, especially the intestines, improving the blood supply and all organ functions. laughter is aerobic; 1 minute of laughter is equivalent to 10 minutes on a rowing machine. Laughter reduces blood pressure and heart rate, stimulates the brain, keeps it active, young and mentally alert. Laughter connects people and provides social interaction. It changes your perspective and makes you feel good! COME JOIN US!
