Honoring Bone Health at King’sBridge

May is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month

At King’sBridge, we believe in supporting each resident’s journey to age in place with strength, dignity, and vitality. In recognition of National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month, we’re proud to share helpful tips and information to promote lifelong bone health. As a trusted not-for-profit senior living community in Northeast Atlanta since 1985, our mission is to care for the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Understanding Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a common condition that weakens bones, often without symptoms, until a fracture occurs. Most frequently, it affects the hips, spine, and wrists—and impacts millions of older adults each year. But the good news is that osteoporosis is manageable and, in many cases, preventable with the right lifestyle and care.

Common Risk Factors:

  • Age-related bone loss
  • Hormonal changes (especially after menopause)
  • Low calcium and vitamin D intake
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Family history

Why Awareness Matters at King’sBridge

With nearly four decades of service and a deeply rooted commitment to compassionate care, King’sBridge creates an environment where residents feel secure, supported, and empowered to make wellness a priority. Our care team offers individualized support, and our community life is rich with activities and amenities that naturally promote stronger bones and better overall health.

We are deeply connected to our residents and their needs—and this month, we invite everyone in our community to take simple but meaningful steps to strengthen their health.

Ways to Support Bone Health

Nourish with Purpose

Our chefs and dining services team provide nutritious meals that help build and maintain strong bones. Incorporate more of these foods into your diet:

  • Calcium-rich choices: Milk, yogurt, cheese, kale, and broccoli
  • Vitamin D sources: Salmon, eggs, fortified cereals
  • Protein-packed meals for muscle and bone support

We make wellness delicious.

Stay Active, Stay Strong

Our thoughtfully designed programs and access to local excursions encourage movement and joy in every day. Safe and enjoyable physical activities include:

  • Walking groups around our scenic hilltop campus
  • Chair yoga and stretching classes
  • Gentle strength training sessions
  • Planned outings that keep you moving and exploring

Practice Bone-Smart Habits

We help our residents make positive lifestyle choices that protect their health:

  • Avoid smoking
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine
  • Stay hydrated and socially connected

Support and education are always available through our compassionate team.

Screenings and Support

Prevention and early detection are key to managing osteoporosis. We partner with nearby hospitals and clinics—such as Emory Healthcare, Piedmont Healthcare, and Northside Healthcare—to ensure timely access to screenings like DEXA scans and follow-up care.

Our residents have the peace of mind knowing help is always nearby, with long-tenured staff and consistent leadership providing unwavering care.

A Faithful Commitment to Wellness

King’sBridge was founded on a vision of faithful service and community care—and for 40 years, we’ve upheld that vision. We continue to reinvest in our campus, services, and most importantly, our residents.

As a not-for-profit community, our priority is not shareholders—it’s people. May is a reminder to invest in your own well-being, and we are honored to walk that journey with you.

Join Us in Raising Awareness

This May, let’s commit together to a healthier future—one step, one meal, one screening at a time. Share what you learn, encourage a friend to get checked, and explore new ways to stay active. Whether you live at King’sBridge or are simply learning more, we’re here to support you and your loved ones with high-value care and heartfelt service.
